Ads

Walmart commercials always have attractive people acting like they work there, but in real life I've never seen anyone attractive working at Walmart. At least the Walmarts I've been too.
Alllllll the music on commercials is always catchy and it gets stuck in your head all day. It makes me mad.
Victoria Secret commercials make me self conscious! ):
Pop-tart commercials are weird they don't even make sense. They got like these blob things looking really sad and then BAM this scary hot pink blob saves the day with a strawberry pop- tart. That doesn't make me want a Pop-tart it makes me wonder what the people who made it were smokin'.

Research Paper Experience

I have had to write a lot of research papers, I think because my English teachers in high school were too lazy to think of something creative to do. So we ended up doing research papers at least once a semester. They were fun, but its kind of boring when you don't like the topic your researching. I remember my senior year we had to research different majors and careers we wanted to go into once we graduated. That was really helpful to me because I got to write about something I was excited about and researching it helped me learn all the different jobs I could have in that career. I also remember in all of my dual enrollment classes we had to write research papers and the citing was what I had trouble with the most.

Review on Why Do Academics Continue to Insist on 'Proper' English?

After reading Baron's article I understood what he was trying to say. I didn't really agree with anything he was saying, but one point.

Obviously when writing its hard not to make simple grammar mistakes, and I think its wrong that some English teachers will give a failing grade on a paper if you have a certain amount of grammar mistakes. I know you are suppose to be professional when writing for school and a few simple spelling mistakes never hurt anyone. Some teachers give a little more lenience towards punctuation and spelling, but some don't and I think its slightly unfair.

I believe that there is a certain time to use "improper English", if your with friends or retelling a story or something of that sort of course your not going to speak like that when your presenting a speech to your classmates or a teacher. There are different times and places to use other phrases or sayings.

If you are a secretary I believe you should use proper English when talking on the phone. If your talking to people on the phone all day and using slang words how would anyone take you seriously? Secretaries are working in professional environments so they should use proper English. They should take pride in there jobs.

English does have a set of rules but that doesn't mean everyone has to or will follow them.

Diversity and Multiculturalism at WMU

Diversity and multiculturalism means different things to different people. I think here at Western Michigan University has built up a diverse and multicultural environment, making everyone feel comfortable in their journey to success. Western is very welcoming to foreign exchange students and all types of diverse people. and value their cultures. Seeing many types of people on campus has helped me realize that the world is full of new things, I am happy that here at Western I am exposed to new cultures and people. One of my roommates is from Germany and she shared her experiences there and she told me how much she has enjoyed it at Western. I believe that this country is getting more and more diverse by the day and we should all learn how to accept people for who they are and not by how they look or where they came from.

Peer Review

At first I didn't really want anyone to read what I had wrote. It was kind of personal and I'm not very confident in my writing skills. The peer review actually helped me a lot and I really enjoyed it. Reading our papers out loud helped slow things down and realize how our papers flowed. I think being in pairs was easier and better than being in a larger group, that way it was easier to give advice and everything.

Writing Assignment pg.69

My freshman and sophomore year of high school I had to take a foreign language class, I chose to take french because one of my best friends was taking it too. It sucked, I hated it so much! My french teachers name was Mrs. Anderson, she looked like a frog, had a huge hairy mole on her chin. I sat right in the front row and when she would get telling her stories about going to Quebec and France she would sit on the edge of MY desk and stroke the small hairs on her chin. Yeah, it was disgusting. She also didn't like me because I couldn't say or spell anything right in French. It seemed like she would purposely give me D's and E's on my quizzes. My friend Lindsay was her favorite because she is sucked up to her. Lindsay constantly would get 100% on all of her quizzes, I started to feel dumb. At first it wasn't bad, we learned basic words and went through everything really slowly. We learned how to say Mr., Miss, and Mrs., the days of the week and basic words you use everyday. I had no problem reading the words and knowing what they meant. I had a problem with spelling the words and saying them. I would dread going to class on test days, I can't even spell that well in English and I was expected to spell in French! I would write out each word at least 15 times each just to get a passing grade, and sometimes that didn't even get me a passing grade. French 2 was the worst, we had to write sentences everyday. I barely got through French 1 and I was thrown into French 2! My GPA dropped down to a 3.3 thanks to stupid French. I have no idea how I passed either class. All I knew was, I never wanted to speak, spell or write anything in French again.
